Peer Leader

Peer Leaders are instrumental in building a community to welcome new students. As a Peer Leader here at LIU Brooklyn you will touch the lives of the students with whom you interact, as a friend and as a role model. Peer Leaders are here to help first-year students ease into the college environment by giving them a support network whom they can turn to for advice and coaching.

Brief Roles & Responsibilities

  • Co-facilitate one section of OS 1/COOP 1 in collaboration with a faculty/administrator/staff member
  • To assist all first-year students with their transition to LIU
  • Encourage involvement in campus events
  • Address the questions and concerns of first year students
  • Refer students to the correct departments for guidance
  • Serve as a role model
  • Maintain contact with your cohort throughout the fall and spring semesters
  • Participate in events such as: Move-In day, Convocation, Welcome Week, Freshman Pride/Spirit Day and LIU Open House

Minimum Qualifications to Apply

  • Be an undergraduate student
  • Be a full-time student in both fall and spring semester
  • Must have 3.0 GPA on the date of hire
  • Have a minimum of 24 credits, (Transfer students should have at least 12 earned from LIU)
  • Must be available to participate in a section of OS 1 (typically Tues/Thurs at 11-11:50am)


  • Improve your leadership skills in the areas of public speaking, problem solving, communication and more.
  • Impacting the lives of 20+ students in OS 1/COOP 1
  • Ability to work collaboratively with an OS 1/COOP 1 Instructor
