Freshman Advising

One of the most important relationships you will have on campus will be with your freshman advisor. We are there with you from orientation through the end of your first year.

Who are your freshman advisors? They are:

  • Dedicated and committed to student service
  • Trained, knowledgeable professionals
  • From various educational backgrounds
  • Empathic to each student's concerns
  • A referral resource (If they don't know the answer, they know who does!)

Some of the reasons a student may stop by to visit with their freshman advisor:

  • Selecting appropriate courses required to earn a degree
  • Assistance with registering for classes each semester
  • Helping to understand University policies and procedures
  • Dropping and/or adding a class
  • Deciding whether or not to repeat a course
  • Discussing changing a major
  • Exploring "Plan B" (for those pursuing a professional/competitive program)
  • Discussing academic and career goals
  • Clarifying a student's academic status (the requirements to be in "good academic standing")
  • Discussing any problems encountered with classes and/or instructors
  • Introductions to people in other offices and departments on campus
