For Graduate Students
We encourage you to avail yourself of the full range of services that are available to you as a graduate student at LIU Brooklyn. Graduate students may either see a Career Counselor on campus by contacting our receptionist at 718-488-1042 to schedule an appointment during office hours, or work with a distance counselor through ReadyMinds, a career counseling service provider we have engaged.
Our services for graduate students include:
One-on-one Appointments
You'll receive individualized career counseling throughout your graduate studies from counselors who specialize in your field. If you are a graduate student in the School of Business, please contact 718.488 1121 to schedule an appointment with April Dechagas, Graduate Advisor/Career Counselor. Her office if located on the 7th floor of the Humanities building. Other graduate students may contact 718.488.1042 or stop by Pratt 510 to schedule an appointment with a graduate counselor, Amy Rothenberg or Stephanie Steinberg. Evening appointments are available two evenings per week.
For those of you needing a more flexible appointment, you may access distance career counseling. Cathy Rimsky has joined our team as our part-time, distance career counselor to work with alumni and graduate students. Cathy is a seasoned professional with experience as a human resources executive and career coach in outplacement firms and private practice. Cathy will work with graduate students and alumni remotely via e-mail and telephone. Her services include: resume critique, cover letter development and job search planning.
To connect with Cathy, first, register for mycareerkey (see link above). Cathy will only be able to work with you once you are registered for MyCareerKey. Then, you may send an e-mail to Cathy at: cathy.rimsky@liu.edu. Please note that Cathy works part-time, 10 hours per week. She will respond to your e-mail within 48-72 hours and will schedule an appointment to speak with you. An average of three hours of service will be offered. All services are provided free-of-charge.
All graduate students are encouraged to review both the on-campus and off-campus Career Events listed in mycareerkey. If you have any questions about services, please contact our office at: 718.488.1042.
