Carmen Ayala, Class of 2004, B.S. in Nursing Carmen Ayala

Class of 2004
B.S. in Nursing

Nurse, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Christus Santa Rosa Hospital
San Antonio, Texas

Dedicated is just one word that describes Carmen Ayala. While she was
earning her nursing degree at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus she was on the go almost
around the clock. At the time, a mother of four, she juggled a full load of
classes, an ob-pediatrics rotation at Brooklyn’s Wyckoff Hospital and a
multitude of parenting duties, before getting around to her homework,
usually sometime well after midnight! She did it all with tremendous energy
and unwavering enthusiasm. “My children and my desire to be a nurse just
kept me going,” she declared. “I couldn’t do it without the encouragement I
received from the professors at the Brooklyn Campus. The School of Nursing
is very family-oriented and supportive.”

Upon graduating with honors, she worked in the Neonatal Care Unit at
Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn. Today, she lives in San Antonio
Texas and works as a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Christus
Santa Rosa Hospital, where she plays a critical role in providing care to
premature infants and to those requiring special attention. She recently
gave birth to her fifth child, but continues to dedicate her life to taking
care of others. “I absolutely love working with children,” she exclaimed. “I
know that I make a difference in the quality of their young lives each and
every day.”
