According to the National Cancer Institute, it is recommended that women over the age of 40 should have a mammogram every 1 - 2 years. Mammograms are x-rays of the breast that are used to detect breast cancer in women who may have no signs or symptoms of the disease. So, they make it possible to detect tumors or irregularities that cannot be felt.
Getting a high-quality screening mammogram and having a clinical breast exam (an exam done by a health care provider) are the most effective ways to detect breast cancer early.
We provide this service on a quarterly basis at our center for uninsured woman. Check the Center’s events calendar and flyers for information on when the next scheduled session will be offered.
