How To Apply: I-START Application Information

The Application for the 2013 I-START Program is now open. To apply, please click here.

Please sign up for email updates here to receive updates about the application process and upcoming information sessions.

If you would like to schedule a time to speak to an I-START Ambassador to learn more about the program, sign up here.

Application Deadline: February 1st.

Please note that as a candidate for the I-START Teacher Residency, you MUST complete the I-START Application AND the New York City Teaching Fellows (NYCTF) application process. You can find the New York City Teaching Fellows application here.

Once you start your New York City Teaching Fellows application, you will receive communications from the NYCTF office about the status of your application and if you are invited to interview, they will reach out to you directly. Please note, you will receive separate emails from I-START and NYCTF about your standing in their respective programs.

Application Timeline

October 2012 – March 2013
Complete online I-START AND New York City Teaching Fellows applications.

Rolling Interviews with NYC Teaching Fellow.

December 2012 – April 2013

Rolling Interviews with I-START Selection Committee: All candidates invited to interview will receive an update regarding the status of their application within four to six weeks of their interview date.

January – May 2013

Finalists are notified and invited for interviews by participating Internationals High School principals.



March - early June 2013

Principals make offers to select finalists throughout the Spring. Final offers are made contingent upon each school site's 2012-2013 school year budget.

Late August 2013 (dependent upon school placement)
Attend school specific Professional Development.
Accepted apprentices attend an Orientation at Long Island University and complete LIU admission documents.

September 2013

Apprentices officially start as DOE employees in the school apprenticeship.
 Apprentices officially start coursework at Long Island University.
