Diagnostic Medical Sonography is one of the fastest growing professions in the health care industry in the country. According to the Department of Labor, the job outlook for sonographers between 2010 – 2020 will increase by 44%, which is higher than most health professions. As a professional sonographer you will have a career that will be both personally and financially rewarding.
LIU DMS students are educated primarily in the ultrasound specialties of abdominal, obstetrics and gynecology, and adult echocardiography, and secondarily in neurosonography, musculoskeletal, non-invasive vascular, and pediatric echocardiography.
LIU graduates have many career opportunities in major hospital centers and private medical offices. The LIU DMS Program is uniquely situated to afford its students access to excellent medical facilities in the metropolitan area where they may eventually find employment. As our graduates become more proficient professionally, they may advance to become hospital administrator, clinical application specialists working for major ultrasound companies or educators. Currently, starting salaries in the New York Metropolitan area are approximately $55,000 per year.
