Summer Camp

Boys ages 7 years – 8th grade and girls ages 7 years – 8th grade

LIU Brooklyn has built a strong reputation for children’s swimming instruction over the last five years thanks to downtown Brooklyn’s finest aquatics facility. The University will add to that reputation when it inaugurates its first Division I women’s swim squad in spring 2015.

Combining extensive pool time as well as strength and conditioning exercises, LIU’s summer swim camp will greatly enhance the abilities of young swimmers. All instruction will take place under the watchful eyes of Tiffany Clay, LIU’s NCAA D-I swim coach, and carried out by WSI-certified swim instructors.

Sample Schedule:

8:30-9:00 Drop off/pool prep
9:00-10:30 Swim instruction
10:30-11:00 Strength and conditioning exercises
11:00-12:30 Swim instruction
12:30-1:30 Shower/Lunch/relax
1:30 – 2:30 Coach talk / Video stroke optimization
2:30 - 3:00 Strength and conditioning exercises
3:00-3:30 parent pick up

Blackbird Swim Camp is ideal for the young swimmer who can:

  • Swim 25 meters without stopping or assistance of lane line (1 lap)
  • Comfortably tread water in the deep end
  • Comfortably jump off the blocks into the deep end
  • Demonstrate rudimentary knowledge of all four strokes but not necessarily the ability to do all four 

For more advanced swimmers who exceed the above requirements, their work will focus more on technique and work in groups with swimmers of the same ability.
