Welcome to the LIU Brooklyn Music Program, which offers stimulating study in various areas of music and many opportunities for future professional growth. We currently offer three degrees in Music – the Bachelor of Arts in Applied or Music Theory, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Studies, and the Bachelor of Science in Music Education in Urban Schools.
Students may choose from majors in classically oriented traditional music, music education, or jazz studies, and have the option to tailor other courses of study to include concentrations such as media arts, education or business. In all programs, a strong academic foundation is provided by the diverse core curriculum of LIU Brooklyn. In addition, students have the opportunity to learn from a wide variety of professional musicians who live and perform in New York City and the surrounding area – the entertainment and music mecca of the world.
Our dedicated and distinguished faculty members teach the introductory and advanced courses. Leading jazz professionals participate in the Jazz Studies program as class instructors, ensemble directors, clinicians, and private teachers. The Music Program hosts a Jazz Clinic Master Class series each semester, with well-known jazz luminaries who perform and work with students. This series is also open to the public.
As Music Coordinator for the Department of Performing Arts, I want to assure you that the faculty members and I would be most happy to assist you in any way. We are here to help answer any questions you may have concerning audition dates, the application process, registering for classes, campus life, or general questions about New York City. We look forward to meeting you at one of our auditions.
