B.F.A. in Dance
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree in Dance offers rigorous, conservatory-style training for those interested in pursuing careers as professional dancers.
This modern-based program provides students with a foundation in ballet while exposing them to the breadth of contemporary modern and post-modern dance techniques. This emphasis on training, along with our singular Dance Wellness program, has put us at the forefront of dance medicine as applied to the wellbeing of future dance artists.
Small class sizes provide majors with individualized attention from the professional faculty, which is drawn from the finest dance companies in New York City. Students also work regularly with guest artists from whom they learn historical and current repertory.
The core B.F.A. includes:
- Modern Techniques
- Improvisation and Choreography
- World Dance
- Music for Dance
- Dance History
- Anatomy and Kinesiology for the Dancer
- Dance Wellness
Finally, every Dance major is strongly encouraged to take advantage of performance opportunities on campus throughout the academic year. The Department sponsors annual Winter and Spring concerts, and a monthly showcase of works-in-progress known as the Rising Artists Workshop (RAWorkshop) Series.
