Course of Study
The LACS minor requires 12 credits in courses approved for the minor related to Latin American and Caribbean themes. Six credits must be in the social sciences and six in the arts and humanities. Courses taken outside the Richard L. Conolly College of Arts & Sciences are considered on a case-by-case basis.
The foreign language requirement for the minor is one semester of Spanish or French at the 100 level or above. Proficiency in Portuguese is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Students are strongly encouraged to take either Latin American Politics, Latin American History, or Peoples and Cultures of the Caribbean and Latin America.
Courses taken in fulfillment of the LACS minor may come from permanent offerings or may be special topics courses. Independent studies are arranged when necessary or appropriate. Any course taken in fulfillment of the LACS minor must devote more than half its focus to Latin American and/or Caribbean themes.
