Course of Study
In order to obtain the degree of B.A. in Economics, a student is required to complete two introductory courses (Introduction to Economics 1 and 2) and eight advanced economics courses (i.e., 24 credits in economics courses numbered over 100). One course from the Social Science 200 series is also required. Mathematics, Business, Political Science, History and Sociology are recommended Distributions. Students who major in other fields may also minor in Economics, which requires completing four advanced economics courses (i.e., 12 credits in economics courses numbered over 100). Aside from these requirements, students must complete (or be exempted of) the Proficiency Courses and the Core Curriculum as well as other University requirements (for details, see the LIU Brooklyn Undergraduate Bulletin). Students preparing to teach in the field of economics on the secondary school level should consult the Department of Teaching and Learning in the School of Education for further requirements.
