Description

Susan Zinar holds an M.A.T. in reading from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has more than 20 years of experience as a reading specialist in schools, clinics and private practice.

Dr. Zinar is an associate professor at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus and is chair of the Campus’ Department of Teaching and Learning. For 10 years, she was also director of the Long Island University Reading Builders Program at the Learning Center for Educators & Families, which provided low-cost diagnostic and remedial services to children in grades 2-8.

Dr. Zinar has published in the Journal of Reading Behavior, the Journal of Reading Education and Contemporary Educational Psychology. Her current research interest is the relationship of metacognition to reading comprehension.
