Description

Dr. Anthony Santella is an assistant professor of public health at Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus. A new graduate program housed in the Campus' School of Health Professions, the M.P.H. program will train students to be generalist public health practitioners.

Prior to joining the faculty at the Brooklyn Campus, Dr. Santella was the director of HIV policy, planning and implementation at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). In this role, he spearheaded the HIV/AIDS service delivery plan development process as well as the strategic planning and policy analysis efforts of the Ryan White program in NYC. Dr. Santella also co-chaired the Needs Assessment Committee of the NYC HIV Health and Human Services Planning Council.

Prior to joining the DOHMH, he worked as a health services researcher in the areas of managed care, HIV and mental health at the Grey Healthcare Group, a medical education and communications agency in New York City, and as a health research scientist in injury and cancer prevention and control at both the Battelle Centers for Public Health Research and Evaluation and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Ga.

While a graduate student at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health and Tulane University's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Dr. Santella was an intern with the Association of Schools of Public Health assigned to the CDC, Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, and a research assistant at the Hope Clinic of the Emory University School of Medicine Vaccine Center, where he conducted community outreach and education for several NIH-funded preventative HIV vaccine and yellow fever clinical trials.

Dr. Santella also has served as an adjunct assistant professor in both the Lehman bachelor's program in health administration program at Lehman College (CUNY) and in the M.P.H. program at SUNY Downstate Medical Center's School of Public Health.
