The Foreign Language Exemption Examination evaluates a student's grammar and comprehension as well as reading and writing proficiency in Spanish, French, Russian, or Italian. By passing the examination a student will be exempt from the Foreign Language Requirement of Conolly College but will NOT receive course credit. The examination will consist of basic grammar and vocabulary questions and comprehension passages as well as short compositions in the language being evaluated. Exemption from any language core courses is entirely at the discretion of the Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.What is the purpose of the examination?
The Examination is designed to measure students’ skills in Foreign Languages to determine if students are exempt from Foreign Language classes. We administer examinations in French, Italian, Russian, and Spanish.Who qualifies to take the examination?
Any student who speaks any of the above languages at home or has studied any of the languages for at least two years qualifies.How long is the examination and when is it administered?

Students should bring their LIU student ID number, a pen, pencil, and photo identification such as a school ID or a driver’s license.Where and when can I get the results of my exam?

For all examinations you must exhibit a moderate to advanced ability to read, write and understand the language.
