Nearly 3,000 Graduates to be Honored at LIU Brooklyn Commencement
University honors the Class of 2014 on May 15 at the Barclays Center

LIU Brooklyn, LIU Pharmacy, and LIU Hudson will honor the 2,925 graduates from the Class of 2014 on Thursday, May 15, at 9 a.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Nearly 10,000 graduates, families, guests, and university officials are expected to attend the ceremony.
Also being recognized are the honorary degree recipients, Alan Fishman and Billy Dawn Smith. Fishman has been an active community leader in Brooklyn, and serves as board chair for the Brooklyn Community Foundation, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. Smith is a renowned singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer, who is best known for his hit songs, “Step by Step,” “When Angels Listened In,” and the pop hit “Just Born to Be (Your Baby).” Both honorees have distinguished themselves across a multitude of disciplines in the professional world and in the Brooklyn community.
In addition, Abdul Muktadir (M.S., ’84), will be given the Distinguished Alumni award from LIU Pharmacy. Muktadir is managing director and founder of Incepta Pharmaceuticals, Ltd., where his ability to launch a variety of generic products otherwise difficult to develop and market contributed to the remarkable progress of the company.
At commencement, the valedictorian of the Class of 2014, Joshua LaMore, an English major with a minor in philosophy, will address the attendees. LaMore was selected for his excellent GPA and hard work and dedication to his studies. Also being honored is the salutatorian of the Class of 2014, Solaine Master, a health science major, who was selected for her academic excellence and dedication to the LIU Brooklyn community.
Commencement 2014 will celebrate the achievements of 899 baccalaureate students, 1,339 master’s degree candidates, 258 doctoral candidates, 22 associate’s degree recipients, and 84 who have completed advanced certificates.
