Solaine Master, a health science major who graduated in January with a Bachelor of Science, has been selected the Salutatorian of the Class of 2014 at LIU Brooklyn. Master was selected for her high GPA as well as her dedication to the LIU Brooklyn community.
Born in Fond-est-Blanc, Haiti, Master moved to the United States in 1991, where she grew up in Queens, N.Y. She is pursuing a master’s degree in exercise science at LIU Brooklyn to further her career in physical therapy. “I have seen the bravery of our country’s servicemen and servicewomen, and I am alarmed by the lack of resources available to them,” said Master. “It’s my goal to become a doctor of physical therapy and contribute to the rehabilitative process of these courageous individuals.”
She has served as a member of the Student Environmental Action Club since 2012, and is currently the club’s president. Master is also on the Volunteer Committee of the Rockaway-Broad Channel Long Term Recovery Group, a nonprofit organization that provides support and resources for communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy. In addition, she serves as secretary for the Kiwanis International Club of Jamaica, Queens, and since 2008 has volunteered as part of the medical crew at the annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness.
“We are proud to name Solaine Master as the Salutatorian of the Class of 2014,” said Gale Haynes, vice president, chief operating officer, and legal counsel at LIU. “She is an exemplary student and a dedicated member of the LIU Brooklyn community.”
Master, who resides in South Ozone Park, with her husband, Nick, has two daughters. She will be honored with her classmates at the LIU Brooklyn 2014 Commencement on May 15 at the Barclays Center.
