On Nov. 21, LIU Pharmacy (The Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences) dedicated the Arthur Goldberg Professional Studies Seminar Room on the sixth floor of the Zeckendorf Health Sciences Center. LIU Pharmacy’s Council of Overseers collectively contributed $50,000 to renovate and name the seminar room in memory of their beloved colleague.
Arthur I. Goldberg `53, H`04 (pictured), trustee emeritus, passed away on April 9, 2010. A renowned authority on health care law, he was elected to the university’s Board of Trustees in 1993 and was active on the Academic Affairs as well as the Buildings and Grounds committees for many years.
Twice honored by the university with a Distinguished Alumnus Award, Goldberg expressed his love for LIU in a myriad of ways. He believed in the power of education to enrich life and welcomed every opportunity to contribute to the university’s intellectual community.
In addition to teaching pharmaceutical jurisprudence at the College of Pharmacy, he moderated and lectured regularly in the college's continuing education program. Over the years, he assumed a number of leadership roles, including member and chair of the College of Pharmacy’s Council of Overseers.
The Arthur Goldberg Professional Studies Seminar Room is a student-centered facility that creates an environment for interactive discussions and research seminars. It also serves as a venue for guest speakers, conferences, and presentations, and to host meetings on important topics that improve student life. All of these activities are consistent with Goldberg’s interests and his efforts during his many years as an alumni leader, as well as a member and chairman of the Council of Overseers.
