Brooklyn, N.Y. – LIU Pharmacy graduate Ronald Del Gaudio, owner of Kings Pharmacy in Park Slope, has won a prestigious award for his work in helping to educate and counsel people managing diabetes.
The Health Mart Healthy Living Tour honored Del Gaudio last month, one of five pharmacists nationwide to be so recognized. The tour celebrates community pharmacists for the important role they play in raising diabetes awareness.
“Pharmacists often serve as the first point of care for everyone from new parents to grandparents with diabetes,” said Chuck Wilson, Health Mart’s vice president. “These five pharmacists have proven themselves as go-to resources in their community for those managing diabetes.”
Del Gaudio has spent the last quarter-century building a new kind of pharmacy designed around holistic patient care. A 1979 graduate of LIU Pharmacy, he serves on the college’s Council of Overseers and was a recipient of the school’s Distinguished Alumni Award. His pharmacy offers a one-year post-graduate training program for students, the first of its kind in the metropolitan area.
“Ron is an innovator and leader in the profession of pharmacy,” LIU Pharmacy Dean David Taft said. “This award recognizes the positive impact he makes on his patients and his community in diabetes management and awareness. I am delighted to see one of our most distinguished alumni honored in this way.”
After completing his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from LIU Pharmacy and his M.B.A from Pace University, Del Gaudio joined the independent drugstore chain, Kings Pharmacy, rising through the ranks to become the company’s president and owner.
He operates two pharmacies in Brooklyn and one in Manhattan, each providing daily hypertension screenings, diabetes education and other classes, as well as patient compliance programs and IV home infusion services.
Del Gaudio is a longtime board member and the current president of the Brooklyn-Queens chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a member of the board of the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York and a regional representative for the New York City Pharmacists Society. His outstanding professional achievements have been recognized by the National Federation of Italian-American Societies, which honored him as a distinguished member in 2001.
