Brooklyn, N.Y. – LIU Pharmacy (Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences) is partnering with board-certified dermatologist, LIU Pharmacy alumnus and founder of Murad, Inc., Howard Murad, M.D., FAAD to offer Murad’s University of Inclusive Health online course, “360 Sun Protection,” which will present pharmacists and other health care professionals key information on the importance of sun protection, both topically and internally.
LIU Pharmacy is now offering this one-hour accredited continuing education program that provides insight into Dr. Murad’s Inclusive Health approach, a three-pronged strategy to improve cellular health, which ultimately yields better sun protection through a stronger barrier function and healthier cells.
“We are very excited about this partnership and to be able to update the knowledge of pharmacists regarding the proper use of sunscreens, enabling them to make recommendations backed by strong science and offering a holistic approach,” said director of Continuing Professional Pharmacy Education at LIU Pharmacy Joseph J. Bova. “We are also looking forward to offering additional online learning courses by Dr. Murad in the near future.”
A member of LIU Pharmacy’s Council of Overseers, Dr. Murad is recognized as a leading visionary for his scientific innovations in the fields of health, wellness and dermatology. He is the pioneering force behind the Inclusive Health movement which focuses on a total body approach to youth building. Dr. Murad’s scientific discoveries in The Science of Cellular Water™, which identify the common denominator of aging and illness as cellular water loss, are at the heart of what is now recognized as one of the most comprehensive approaches to understanding health and aging, an approach that looks at the ability of cell membranes to hold water as the fundamental marker of youthful good health.
Dr. Murad's Inclusive Health philosophy is unique in that it emphasizes that skin is not only the body's largest organ but that skin health is reflective of the overall health of all systems in the body. Holding 18 patents, Dr. Murad is known as the “Father of Internal Skincare” and has been named an “Industry Visionary” by the International SPA Association and a “Beauty Genius” by Elle magazine. In addition to his innovative approach to skin, Murad has written four books, including “The Water Secret: The Cellular Breakthrough to Look and Feel 10 Years Younger” (Wiley, 2010), which became a #1 bestseller at Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.
“No one has devoted more time and effort to making beautiful, healthy skin attainable for everyone than Dr. Howard Murad, and we are delighted with this joint online venture,” said Dr. David R. Taft, dean of LIU Pharmacy.
LIU Pharmacy, has graduated more than 20,000 students, and is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
