Submitting an Application for Admission
It is recommended that an Application for Admission to the Master of Science in Library and Information Science be submitted at least one month prior to the start of classes. Courses are offered in the Fall, Spring and Summer Sessions. All applications and requested materials (i.e. transcripts, resume, letters of recommendation, etc.) should be mailed to LIU Brentwood Admissions Office. To apply for admission, please follow these steps.
1. Long Island University Online Application for Admission
Applicants to the M.S. in Library and Information Science must complete the Long Island University Online Application for Admission and select "LIU Brentwood" in the campus field. The application can be obtained by clicking on the above link or selecting the Apply Now button in the upper right-hand corner of this page. You can also request that a graduate application be mailed to you by calling 631-273-5112 or emailing email@example.com
Submit one copy of an undergraduate transcript with a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent, in a bachelor's program or in the last two years of such a program. Applicants who will have not completed their degrees prior to admission deadlines should submit a transcript without the final semester's grades. Such applicants may be accepted pending receipt of their final transcripts. Submit one copy of official transcripts from all other institutions attended, including other graduate programs. If you hold a degree from outside the United States your official records of all post-secondary education must be translated by an approved organization such as World Education Services (WES). You may purchase this translation by contacting WES, www.wes.org or telephone at 1-800-937-3895. Request a course-by-course translation with conversion of all grades into a U.S.4- point scale with U.S. degree equivalencies. This translation must be received by the Office of Admissions in an envelope sealed by WES.
* Applicants whose undergraduate average is below 3.0 may be required to submit the results of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), Miller Analogy Test (MAT) or other suitable exam taken in the last five years. Students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, those already holding a Master's degree or those who can show completion of substantial previous graduate course work with grades of B or above, will not be required to submit these test scores.
3. Letters of Recommendation
Submit two professional and/or academic letters of recommendation that address the applicant's potential in the profession and ability to complete a graduate program.
The references should be given the Letter of Recommendation signed by you, along with a stamped envelope addressed to: Admissions Office, LIU Brentwood, 100 Second Avenue, Brentwood, N.Y. 11717
