Brentwood, N.Y. – Lee Kelly, an accomplished administrator at Long Island University, has been appointed the new associate provost of the Brentwood Campus effective August 1. She succeeds Marlyne Hynds, who retired after a 40-year association with the University.
Kelly will oversee student services, academic programs and campus operations for 1,200 graduate, undergraduate and non-credit students enrolled at the campus on Second Avenue in Brentwood. The Campus offers master’s degrees in criminal justice, education, business and information and library science; an undergraduate degree in criminal justice, and continuing education courses in financial planning and drivers’ education.
"The Brentwood Campus exemplifies Long Island University’s mission of access and excellence," said Kelly, a resident of Little Neck, N.Y. "I look forward to playing a role as the Campus continues to bring opportunities for personal and professional growth to residents of Suffolk County."
Kelly was previously the assistant provost for enrollment services at C.W. Post, helping to administer admissions, financial aid, academic counseling, bursar, registrar and adult student services as well as the winter and summer sessions. She has been instrumental in the implementation of the Enterprise Resource Planning software system on campus, which has greatly enhanced C.W. Post’s electronic academic, admissions and financial records capabilities.
She began her career at Long Island University in 1991, serving as university planning officer and executive assistant to the president. From 1997 to 2002 she served as registrar for C.W. Post and then as interim provost at Southampton College from 2002 to 2003. She has also served as acting director of admissions at C.W. Post and university director of human resources administration. She also worked as executive assistant to the vice president for finance at New York University Medical Center. Kelly has an M.B.A. in marketing/management of organizations from Columbia Business School, and a B.A. in economics from Swarthmore College.
Kelly's predecessor was associated with the University throughout her career. Hynds transferred to the C.W. Post Campus from Nassau Community College in 1968 and graduated summa cum laude from the School of Education in 1970. She earned a master’s degree in history two years later. Upon graduating, Hynds accepted a position as assistant to the University vice president for administration.
In 1974, she transferred to the Brentwood Campus, where she served as assistant director for academic support services. Her responsibilities steadily increased to include financial aid advisement and packaging, admissions and recruitment of students, academic counseling and liaison work with C.W. Post and St. Joseph’s College, and finally the positions of associate provost and dean of student affairs.
