Brookville, N.Y., December 29, 2015 – LIU Post will host the 2016 Global Game Jam, a fast-paced 48-hour digital “jam session” providing participants of all experience levels an opportunity to brainstorm, innovate, collaborate and develop new ideas for game design.

LIU Professor and Game Industry Expert Ramiro Corbetto, 2010 IGF award-winning Game of the Year and IndiCade Festival Winner Superfriends for Playstation 3 and 4, and PC/Mac/Linux, will give the opening night talk.

The event starts at 5 p.m., Jan. 29 and will be held at the Long Island Room, located in Winnick Hall, ending on Jan. 31. The Global Game Jam is an international video game-building event; 78 countries participated last year in over 500 locations making more than 5,439 playable games. Participants are to make a video game within 48 hours of the start of the event. The games are based on a theme that is released to the participants at the start of the event.

It takes a lot to make a game – visual design, music, game design, programming, and more. Game jams are an invaluable experience for novice and expert game designers alike. They're especially useful for people hoping to build their portfolio to get into the games industry. The Global Game Jam is open to students and non-students, but registration is required, available online at tiny.cc/postgamejam.

The Digital Game Design and Development program at LIU Post offers a project-based curriculum that allows students to develop skills in all areas of game development,

including game design, computer programing, and visual design. This rigorous program prepares students for a career in the game industry as well as other related industries. LIU Post’s proximity to New York City’s vibrant commercial and artistic communities provides students with opportunities to interact with key figures in the game industry and helps them develop career opportunities. Check out some examples of LIU students' work in game design.
