Presidential Search Update - October 17, 2012

TO: Members of the LIU Community
FROM: Eric Krasnoff, Chairman, Presidential Search Committee
RE: Presidential Search Update
DATE: October 17, 2012

The purpose of this letter is to keep you up-to-date on the status of the presidential search process. Based on feedback from members of the Presidential Search Advisory Committee, the Trustee Search Committee has revisited the overall presidential search committee structure and made changes which will further strengthen stakeholder participation and communication.

The Presidential Search Advisory Committee and the Trustee Search Committee have been merged into a single Search Committee. The Search Committee will oversee the process of identifying the next leader of Long Island University.

Recognizing that the appointment of the president is a core fiduciary responsibility of the Board, an Executive Committee, which is a subset of the broader committee and is composed of eight trustees, has been charged with special responsibilities. This Executive Committee will screen candidates who meet the qualifications summarized in the presidential leadership profile and select a small number of exceptional candidates for consideration by members of the broader Search Committee. Either members of the Search Committee, or a subset of the membership not on the Executive Committee, will interview the final candidates. Details of the process for vetting the final candidates will be developed at the appropriate time in the process.

In response to the request to add more faculty representatives to the committee, we have invited six additional faculty to serve on the committee, including three recommended by the respective heads of the faculty governing bodies of Brooklyn, Pharmacy, and Post. As of today, the heads of the faculty governing bodies of Pharmacy and Post have each recommended faculty members. The revised membership roster is posted on the Presidential Search web site.

The presidential search advertisement and leadership profile have also been posted on the presidential search web site, on the following link:

We will continue to provide updates to the University community as the presidential search process unfolds and welcome your input.
