The University's risk management functions are handled by Scott Wightman of Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services, an international brokerage and consulting firm with a strong expertise in higher education. As the University’s risk manager, Mr. Wightman’s primary tasks are to identify and investigate sources of risk and safety issues, and to establish safety protocols to protect University students, employees and visitors. Other related responsibilities include reviewing proposed and existing departmental programs, providing advice and assistance with respect to risk management issues and insurance, researching and purchasing insurance in support of University programs and activities, and drafting risk transfer documents. He and his team also play a role in the University's contract review process, which is overseen by the Office of the University Counsel.
