Office of the President
Welcome to LIU! Through this online gateway you are just a few clicks away from learning more about this great institution, one whose mission of Access and Excellence has been the central guiding force in transforming the lives of thousands of current students and more than 180,000 living alumni. I hope you will take some time to learn more about our outstanding programs and faculty members, exciting cultural and artistic offerings, and our diverse students.
LIU has a proud history of helping men and women in their quest to achieve the American dream and the Office of the President is unswerving in its commitment to promoting the University’s mission. The Office is the hub of the institution and the president, who serves at the pleasure of the Board that appoints him or her, is the institution’s chief executive, financial, development and academic officer. He or she is ultimately responsible for every aspect of university life and is charged with enhancing the academic mission, sustaining quality control, and overseeing the operations of the institution as an ongoing legal and business corporation. The president must be responsible for both the modern corporate structure as well as the ancient guild of scholars, a legacy that is defined by the word “college.” In addition to budgets, audits, fundraising and new construction, the president is the final arbiter in the award of tenure, the chief planning officer for new academic programs, and the defender of the academic values which suffuse any university.
Thank you for choosing to visit us electronically via the Web.
