The University belongs to a buying cooperative for educational and institutional purchases. There are many types of items covered by this cooperative including: furniture, computers, printers, air freight, scientific supplies and equipment, and audio-visual supplies and equipment.
The price structures for these agreements are based on the purchasing volume of many universities and hospitals. Some contracts are national in scope, while others are regional. In general, the price discounts offered on these contracts are significantly better than the University would be able to secure on its own because of the volume of purchasing by the institutions involved.
The University often participates in these contracts. If Procurement and Sourcing Services receives a purchase order requisition and senses that an E & I contract may be more beneficial from a pricing point of view, it will contact the requisitioning department and advise them accordingly. We currently use E&I for contracts with Fed Ex, GovConnection, Enterprise Car Rental and AT&T.
NEW YORK STATE CONTRACTS
As a private, not-for-profit institution, the University is entitled to take advantage of the price breaks offered by New York State contracts. The State utilizes the purchasing power of public, state and government institutions to bid on many different commodities. The University purchases numerous items for better prices as a result of New York State buying power. The institution's furniture contracts with Hon and Steelcase are examples of New York State contracts.
